Penalty shootout (penalties)

When are they required?

A penalty shootout only applies to the final stage. You enter it only if all three conditions are met:

  1. The match is in the final stage (not in the group stage);
  2. the score is level (a tie);
  3. it is not a second leg.

If you enter, for example, 2-2 on a first-leg final, an amber panel "Penalty shootout — winner?" appears: choose Home or Away. Submission is blocked until the winner is chosen ("Choose the penalty shootout winner").

When NOT to enter one

  • In the group stage: a tie stays a tie.
  • On a second leg that is level: no penalty shootout at this stage.
  • On a match with a clear winner: no penalties panel.

The penalty shootout winner keeps the winner highlight, with a small amber dot 🟠 next to its name to indicate qualification via penalties.
